
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born March 22, 1976) is an American actress. Her numerous awards include an Academy Award, British Academy Film Award and Primetime Emmy Award. She has also won two Golden Globe Awards. Time magazine listed her as one of the top 100 influential people worldwide in 2005 and in. Forbes also named her one the 100 Most Powerful Women Worldwide in the year 2019. In 2021, Forbes named her the world's richest actress with an estimated total worth of $400 million.Witherspoon began her acting career as a teenager, making her debut on screen in The Man in the Moon (1991). In 1999, she appeared as acting as a supporting actor in Cruel Intentions as well as in the role of Tracy Flick in Election. Elle Woods, a comedy comedy (2001) and its sequel in 2003, brought her greater recognition. She was also in Sweet Home Alabama (2002) and Sweet Home Alabama, a romantic comedy. She received acclaim from critics and received the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as June Carter Cash, in the musical biopic Walk the Line. Following a career downturn, in which her only box office film success was the romantic drama Water for Elephants (2011), Witherspoon made a comeback by producing and starring as Cheryl Strayed in the drama Wild (2014) in which she was nominated again for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. Witherspoon is still working mostly on television and been a part of and produced many adaptations of literary written by women under the name Hello Sunshine. These include Big Little Lies, an HBO drama series (2017-2019), The Morning Show and the Apple TV+ drama series (2019-present) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020). The Primetime Emmy Award was won for Outstanding Limited Series in the first of these series. She was the producer of the adaptations to film of Gone Girl (2014) as and Where the Crawdads Sing (1922). Witherspoon also owns Draper James, a clothing brand, and is involved in advocacy organizations for women and children. She is a member of the Children's Defense Fund's Board and was honoured to be the chairperson of the Avon Foundation's women's cause charity in 2007.
